Google shutting down Project Tango in March 2018

Google will turn its attention to ARCore that doesn't require special hardware.

Google announced Friday it will stop supporting Project Tango, its first augmented reality platform for developers, on March 1, 2018. The end of Project Tango comes as Google focuses on ARCore to build AR apps and games for Android devices.
"As we focus on bringing augmented reality to the entire Android ecosystem with ARCore, we're turning down support of Tango. We thank the incredible community of developers who made such progress with Tango over the last three years. We look forward to continuing the journey with you on ARCore," a Google spokeswoman.
Project Tango was launched in 2014 to enable mobile devices to detect their position relative to their world around them without using GPS. A developer phone and tablet were launched by Google to spur app development for 3D mobile sensing experiences. Lenovo also launched a Project Tango-based phone, including a sensor and camera on the rear of the device to track 3D motion.
Unlike Project Tango, ARCore doesn't require additional hardware.
On Friday, Google released the second developer preview of ARCore, adding functionality that lets AR apps pause and resume AR sessions, for example to let a user return to an AR app after taking a phone call.

Thousands of Jenkins servers will let anonymous users become admins

Two vulnerabilities discovered and patched over the summer expose Jenkins servers to mass exploitation. Thousands, if not more, Jenkins servers are vulnerable to data theft, takeover, and cryptocurrency mining attacks. This is because hackers can exploit two vulnerabilities to gain admin rights or log in using invalid credentials on these servers. Both vulnerabilities were discovered by security researchers from CyberArk , were privately reported to the Jenkins team, and received fixes over the summer. But despite patches for both issues, there are still thousands of Jenkins servers available online Jenkins  is a web application for  continuous integration  built in Java that allows development teams to run automated tests and commands on code repositories based on test results, and even automate the process of deploying new code to production servers. Jenkins is a popular component in many companies' IT infrastructure and these servers are very popular with both f...

WordPress patches dangerous XSS, SQL injection bugs

Summary: The security release fixes three flaws in the content management system. WordPress has patched three security flaws including a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability and SQL injection problem which could lead to the creation of new vulnerabilities. The first bug, reported by David Herrera of Alley Interactive, is an information disclosure vulnerability which reveals the user interface for assigning taxonomy terms in the "Press This" function -- used to publish posts through browsers -- to users that do not have permission to see it.Last week, the content management system's (CMS) developers said  in a security advisory  that the new fixes resolve three important security issues, all of which impact WordPress versions 4.7.1 and earlier. The second issue was discovered in the WP_Query process, used to access variables and functions in the WordPress core, by researcher Mo Jangda. When passing data seemed "unsafe," the system became vulnerable ...

The buyers aren't biting: Windows zero-day flaw price slashed

Summary: It looks like a willing buyer for the zero-day vulnerability is yet to come forward. A zero-day vulnerability which allegedly compromises a range of Microsoft Windows systems has gone on sale as the seller continues to seek a buyer. After going on sale in May, the exploit's price has been slashed twice -- and is now on the market for the bargain price of $85,000. Earlier this month, reports emerged that an underground seller, BuggiCorp, was offering a rather rare zero-day vulnerability which apparently works against versions of Windows from Windows 2000 to the current Windows 10 operating system. The exploit, for sale on the Russian forum exploit.in , was originally offered with a price tag of $95,000, which later dropped to $90,000, to be paid in the virtual currency Bitcoin. In an update, Trustwave researchers note that the seller has once again lowered their price for the zero-day exploit to $85,000 in the quest to find a buyer."Thi...
